McQuaid Drops Rematch to Thomas
In a rematch of the teams that played in last season's Class B state tournament qualifier, the McQuaid Jesuit Knights once again lost to the Webster Thomas Titans on December 2. This time by a score of 4 to 1.
Webster opened the scoring with a power play goal at 7:53 of the 1st period. Titan forward Misha Dombovy-Johnson shot from the right wing. Knights senior defenseman Mike Filice deflected the puck away from the net, but onto the stick of Titan defenseman Mason Hill, who ripped a wrist shot from the top of the circle to beat freshman goalie Brian Burns. The Titans increased their lead at 14:33, when Dan Fetes scored unassisted.
Second period action put the Knights in a power play situation. The advantage was quickly squelched when Dombovy-Johnson forced a turnover at the point and took the puck down to the Knights' end for an unassisted shorthanded goal. The McQuaid faithful took heart when McQuaid forward James Sturnick slid an Adam Reask pass through the legs of Webster goalie Joe DiRose at 5:55.
The game continued with both sides unable to cash in on any opportunities. But at 14:02 of the 3rd period, Matthew Casilio beat Brian Burns to widen the lead by three goals.
McQuaid managed 29 shots on goal, with the Titans putting 27 shots on net.
