McQuaid Splits on Albany trip

The December 5th weekend found the McQuaid Jesuit Knights traveling to the Albany area for a pair of games, but returning with a split weekend, loosing to the Shenendehowa Plainsmen 4 - 1, but beating the LaSalle Institute Cadets 4-1.

On Friday night against Shenendehowa, the Plainsmen took the lead late in the first period on a goal by Senior Sean DeMerchant at 14:00 in what was a very even period. In the second period the Plainsmen opened up a commanding 3 goal lead with 2 more goals. At 1:12 Michael McCarthy scored on the power play and at 14:35 Alex Pacheco scored to close the period.

In the 3rd period Alec Pacheco scored his 2nd goal of the game at :38. The Knights put a lot of pressure on Shenendehowa the rest of the game and finally scored at 6:13. Sophomore defenseman Ethan Matteson scored his first Varsity goal of his high school career on the power play which was assisted by junior forward Woody Hudson.

The Knights had 6 power plays in the period but Plainsmen goalie Peter Rakowsky shut down the Knights.

Shenendehowa goalie Rakowsky had 27 saves on 28 McQuaid shots. Knights goalie Brian Johnson had 13 saves on 16 shots and 8th Grade Goalie Jake Bryniarski had 5 saves on 6 shots.

Against LaSalle on the Saturday the Knights came out flying and finally managed to score at 13:50 of the first period on a goal by Adam Reask. Nick Lisena and Alex Pochodylo had the assists. The Knights scored quickly in the 2nd period as Nick Parrilli scored at :33 in traffic in front of the net. Woody Hudson and Nick Lisena assisted on the goal.

In the 3rd period the Knights increased their lead to 3-0 on a power play at 9:27. Junior David Haselely scored his first Varsity goal on a beautiful slap shot from the point. Dan Burns assisted on the goal. The Knights continued to put pressure on the Cadets and their hustle paid off with their 4th goal of the game at 13:22. Ryan Sheridan shot the puck from the point and Woody Hudson hustling to the net jammed in the rebound. 9th Grader Brian Burns played an outstanding game in goal for the Knights but at 13:58 of the 3rd period his shut out was ruined as Kevin Syrotynski scored for LaSalle

McQuaid out shot the Cadets 38 to 14 for the game. The Knights season record is 2-3-1.
